What to wear for your extended family photos
Extended family photos are so much fun! But the coordinating outfits is easily the hardest part. When you’re working with such a large amount of people, the outfits you choose really make or break the photos. If everyone wears blue jeans and black shirts, the photos could potentially look too coordinated and not natural. If everyone wears whatever color or pattern they want, the photos could look overwhelming and busy. So let’s break down the factors involved in choosing the best outfits for your family!
— COLOR PALETTE
Try to stick to the color palette your family chooses, by finding variations and different shades of the colors. I suggest avoiding everyone wearing the same color- instead find some that compliment eachother. You don’t need to stick to any of the examples-- they are just a guide to help you visualize what you would like for your photos.
And based on the color palettes, I have put together some outfit examples:

— PATTERNS AND TEXTURES
As you can tell in the outfit examples, I like to mix patterns and solids to get a dimension in the outfits. If every person were to only wear a solid color, the photos might look blocky. But if every person were to wear a pattern, it could result in a busy, overwhelming look to the photos. I suggest just a couple people wear patterns, while the rest wear solid colors that compliment those patterns. If you want to add character to the outfits without a pattern, I suggest playing around with textures! Satin dresses, knit sweaters, corduroy and linen are all textures that add so much to the photos without looking overwhelming.
